Over the years of blogging, I have seen my personal style grow, with the ups and even the downs where I find myself saying what was I thinking?! Today I am sharing with you ‘5 Tips To Help You Define Your Personal Style’ just in time for Spring!
I have been blogging for almost three years, more or less, and now being almost 25 years old, I finally feel like I have developed my personal style. This hasn’t been an easy journey, however now I can confidently say I have a clear understanding of what my personal style is. We’ve all had our ups & downs with having too many clothes in our closets but have absolutely nothing to wear! Sound familiar? Well follow these 5 easy tips that will help you define your personal style
1. Seek Inspiration
First start off by writing a few style icons and doing a bit of research via Pinterest, Google or even my favorite Instagram. Slowly you will start to see what you’re gravitating towards whether that be more casual like Sincerely Jules or more fashion forward Olivia Palermo. Pulling different types of inspiration from all platforms will have you get a better sense of what you like or dislike.
Quick Tip – Create a Pinterest board and title it “Personal Style Inspiration” and start pinning like crazy! I myself go to Pinterest for outfit inspiration constantly! You can refer back to this board at any time and not only will you start to see a pattern with what style you like most, but also will help you create your own personal style outfits! Trust me, Pinterest is gold. Follow my Pinterest here, http://bit.ly/1Oi3q6U
2. Out With The Old & In With The New
Of course, we’re always wanting to buy new clothes because we don’t ever have anything to wear with an entire closet full, right? Start by clearing out your closet and if you haven’t worn it in the last 6 months to a year, chances are you won’t. This will have you get a better sense of what clothes you actually wear and love virus the ones you may have bought on an impulse buy in the sale section. Personal style is all about keeping things new but always having your signature style also!
Quick Tip – Buy the book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I actually own this book myself and even though I have yet to open it, I have heard amazing things about this book! You can purchase it here, http://bit.ly/217v2CP
3. Shop Smarter
5 words, DON’T FALL VICTIM TO SALES! I have said for years that sales are more expensive than buying regular price. Sound crazy? Well, how many times do you actually wait for items to go on sale or do you just impulse buy anything in the sale because it’s 30% off. Think about it, did you really want that mustard color cardigan or was that the sale talking. Ladies, it’s time to shop smarter and invest in your wardrobe! We all buy from Forever 21 but we all know that those pieces will not make it to next season. Shop smarter and buy quality pieces, some higher end and some low end that will help you build your wardrobe and personal style!
Quick Tip – There are tons of online stores like Gilt, Hautelook, or The Outnet that offer designer quality pieces for the discounted sale rate! #yourewelcome
4. Find Your Signature
Over the years, I have slowly started to develop my own personal style and signature. For me, my personal style is wearing a hat, it’s my go-to accessory! Now some girls may have a signature where they wear flats every day or they are a denim kind of gal, whatever your signature might be, the more you realize what you gravitate towards, it will help you define your personal style!
Quick Tip – If you’re really unsure what your signature might be for your personal style, try to start off with an accessory. Mine turned into a hat but for you, it could be a scarf or a jewelry piece. Experiment and have fun!
5. Don’t Follow The Trends
Trends will come and go, but fashion stays forever. The same goes for your personal style! I myself have fallen victim to the trends and have started to change my personal style and before long I have a closet stuffed full of clothes and nothing to wear. To avoid repeating history again is to, take trends into consideration but never dramatically alter your personal style.
Quick Tip – Always take inspiration from trends, don’t copy. By taking pieces of each trend and working into your personal style, this will be having you look more original and unique and not like a walking mall mannequin.
